  • Remembering Fred Brown - Long time SRC User and Synchrotron Research Pioneer

    (posted 2Dec2011)

Fred BrownFred Brown, a pioneer of synchrotron radiation research and a long time user of SRC, passed away recently.  He was the inventor of the Grasshopper and ERG monochromators, and worked with the Tantalus project.  His ERG beamline was the first operational beam line on the Aladdin storage ring, which at the time only ran with a few mA of stored current.

More information about Fred Brown’s involvement in the Tantalus project can be read here. A paper "First Operation of an Extended Range Grasshopper Monochromator on the Aladdin Storage Ring" is also available for download.
